The First Film of the Patlabor EZY Trilogy Hits Theaters: SV2 Team Returns with New Promotional Video

One of the most established and realistic series in the mecha world, Mobile Police Patlabor, has broken its long silence with the Patlabor EZY project. As of Friday, May 15, 2026, File 1, the first of the film series planned as a trilogy, has met audiences in Japan. The new promotional video released just before the release date is full of details that will excite fans of the series. The video provides a detailed introduction to the members of the series' iconic unit, Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV2), and the renewed Ingram units.
The Patlabor EZY project has a story structure consisting of a total of eight episodes. These episodes will be presented to the audience in theaters as three separate films (Files). Following the first film currently in theaters, File 2 is planned for release on August 14, 2026, and File 3, which will conclude the series, is scheduled for March 2027. While the first two films consist mostly of independent anthology-style stories, it is stated that the final film will offer a continuous narrative that ties all the plot points together. The animation production is being handled by J.C. Staff, the studio known for works such as One-Punch Man and Food Wars!.
This new project draws attention by largely reuniting the members of the legendary creative group Headgear, which laid its foundations in 1988. Yutaka Izubuchi, the mechanical designer of the original series, sits in the director's chair this time. The project features giant names from the original team, such as Kazunori Ito on the screenplay, Masami Yuki on character designs, and Kenji Kawai on the music.
