Perfect Addiction "Light Anime" Adaptation Starts July 8: A New Breath in the BL World

Exciting news for fans of the BL (Boys-Love) genre! The Perfect Addiction (Pāfekuto Adikushon) manga, written by Kaoruko Miyama and boasting a large readership, is being brought to screens in a "light anime" format. According to the official announcement, the series will premiere in Japan on July 8, 2026, on the tvk (Television Kanagawa) channel. This adaptation appears to be a candidate for one of the most anticipated productions of the summer season for fans of the genre.
The story focuses on the complex relationship between Akihito Kuji, who appears to be a popular and flirtatious university student on the outside, and Sae Takatsuki, known for his cold and distant beauty. When Akihito accidentally discovers that Sae is actually gay and struggles to find satisfaction in his sex life, he accepts this situation as a "challenge." However, this physical intimacy soon turns into an uncontrollable passion and emotional addiction for both characters. The manga, which has also been brought to English by Seven Seas Entertainment, has already established a solid place among genre enthusiasts with its character depth and bold narrative.
The voice cast of the production features very familiar names from the anime world. Yōhei Azakami will voice the character Akihito Kuji, while the famous voice actor Sōma Saitō will voice Sae Takatsuki. The project, directed by Akashi Uozumi, is being produced by IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio. The screenplay adaptation of the series is entrusted to Izumi Tezuka, and the music to Midori Narikiyo. This strong team aims to reflect the atmosphere of the manga onto the screen in the best possible way.
So, what exactly is the "light anime" format we have been hearing about frequently lately? Unlike traditional animation processes, this method is based on manga panels. Created by coloring and animating the panels and supporting them with voice acting performances and special effects, this format both reduces production costs and offers the opportunity to preserve the original drawing style of the manga. These projects under the BALLOON label, brought to life through the collaboration of Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) and IMAGICA Infos, allow works that appeal to niche audiences to be turned into anime more quickly. Perfect Addiction stands out as the second major project under this label.
The original manga of the series has been serialized in Kaiohsha's Gush magazine since April 2022 and reached a 4-volume collection as of March 2026. The success of Perfect Addiction, which has over 1.5 million copies in circulation worldwide (including digital sales), shows that this new format could open doors for more BL series in the future. Fans will be able to witness how this passionate story turns into a visual feast starting July 8.
