Reki Kawahara's Devils' Crest Series Anime Adaptation Shares First Trailer and Staff

With the first trailer released in recent days, the anime adaptation of Reki Kawahara's dark fantasy light novel series Devils' Crest has been officially confirmed. While the trailer shows viewers the series' gothic atmosphere, main character designs, and action-packed scenes, the team behind the project was also announced.
The director's chair for the anime adaptation is held by Shinichi Omata, previously known for Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Character designs are handled by Tomohiro Kishi at A-1 Pictures. The choice of A-1 Pictures as the studio again marks a familiar collaboration for Kawahara fans, as the studio previously worked on the production of Sword Art Online and Accel World.
Devils' Crest is a light novel series that first began publication under the Dengeki Bunko label in 2018. The story follows a young man who pursues a mysterious crest (coat of arms), confronting demonic forces and a forgotten history. Unlike the virtual worlds we know from Sword Art Online, Kawahara seems to have created a darker and more mythological universe this time. The series currently spans 6 volumes, and the anime adaptation is expected to cover the first part of these volumes.
Among Kawahara's many projects, the anime adaptation of Devils' Crest is big news, especially for readers who love the author's experimental side. Kawahara, who has also tackled different genres like The Isolator in addition to Sword Art Online and Accel World, is now creating a work in the fantasy-thriller genre. The high-quality animation and dark music seen in the trailer successfully reflect the series' atmosphere.
Although a release date has not yet been announced, the release of the first trailer indicates that production is at an advanced stage. Additional cast and streaming platform information is expected in the coming months. Kawahara fans seem to be in for a packed period this year, with both a new season of Sword Art Online and Devils' Crest.
