Keroro Gunso Returns: New Movie Release Date and Details Announced!

One of the most beloved comedy classics of the anime world, Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog), has returned after a long hiatus with major news that will excite fans. According to the announcement made during the AnimeJapan 2026 event, the series' new feature film, Shin Gekijouban Sgt. Frog: Fukkyu shite Sokkou Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu! (New Movie Sgt. Frog: Resurrected and Immediately Facing the Threat of Earth's Destruction!), will be released in theaters in Japan on June 26th. This new adventure will bring Keroro and his platoon's efforts to conquer Earth (Pekopon) back to audiences with a modern touch.
The details shared about the film were not limited to just the release date; two new characters who will be joining the story were also revealed for the first time. How these new characters, named Aruru and Deruru, will influence the chaotic plans of the Keroro Platoon is already a subject of curiosity. Legendary voice actress Kumiko Watanabe, who participated in a special radio program recording held at the event, experienced emotional moments, stating that she once again deeply felt the fans' endless love. Watanabe will continue to bring the iconic Keroro character to life, maintaining the energy of the series we all know.
Created by the famous artist Mine Yoshizaki in 1999, the Keroro Gunso manga became a global phenomenon, especially with the anime series that aired between 2004 and 2011. Known for its pop culture references, absurd humor, and the main character's obsession with Gundam plastic models, the series had previously appeared before audiences with five different feature films. This new project is described as a major "revival" project following the series' 25th-anniversary celebrations and aims to carry the legacy of the series to new generations.
This return is not just a nostalgia trip for old fans, but also holds great importance for new viewers who will be introduced to modern anime aesthetics. Produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks (formerly known as Sunrise), the production will blend the series' classic sense of humor with today's animation quality. While new trailers and character details are expected to arrive before the big premiere in June, Keroro fans have already started marking their calendars.
