Singapore-Based Studio Kasagi Labo Revives Legendary Series Casshan: Casshan 2045

Singapore-based studio Kasagi Labo has announced a new project, Casshan 2045, which revives Shinzō Ningen Casshan (New Human Casshan), a cult classic from Japanese animation history. According to the announcement made on June 24, 2026, this production will bring the over 40-year legacy of the original series together with modern technology and storytelling.
The original Shinzō Ningen Casshan, broadcast by Tatsunoko Production in 1973-1974, was an iconic anime about a half-human, half-robot hero's struggle for justice in a dystopian world. The series gained a large fan base both in Japan and worldwide, and continued through various OVA and film adaptations in the 1990s and 2000s. Kasagi Labo's new project is not just a remake of the series, but also designed as a future dystopia set in the year 2045.
Studio officials state that the project is still in pre-production and is planned as a full-fledged anime series or film. Although details such as director, screenwriter, or streaming platform have not been shared yet, the studio is known as a talented Singapore-based team that has contributed to projects like Appare-Ranman! and Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Kasagi Labo is particularly noted for its international co-productions.
The announcement of Casshan 2045 has generated great excitement, especially among retro anime fans and mecha genre enthusiasts. Blending the 1970s Tokusatsu and superhero tradition with modern animation, this project also continues the current trend of reimagining other Tatsunoko cult series such as Gatchaman and Speed Racer. Fans are wondering whether the studio will preserve the dark atmosphere and themes of the original series.
One of the most important questions about the project is how Kasagi Labo will collaborate with Tatsunoko Production on this remake. Although the studio has not yet officially confirmed whether it holds the license, the fact that the announcement was made at such an advanced stage suggests that copyright issues are largely resolved. More information from the studio is expected in the coming months, possibly a concept art or a short teaser. For Casshan fans, 2026 and 2027 could be a period when they witness the rebirth of this legendary hero.
