New Trailer for 'Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You' Anime Released: Premiere Date July 9

The second trailer for the Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You anime has officially revealed both the opening song and the premiere date. In images shared by Anime News Network on June 11, 2026, the opening song "Ichijiku Kemuri" performed by the famous Japanese music group ZUTOMAYO was heard for the first time. The series will begin airing on Japanese television on July 9, 2026.
The trailer successfully captures the intimate and slightly mysterious atmosphere where our main characters meet behind the supermarket. ZUTOMAYO's new song carries the experimental rock and electronic foundation that has become the group's signature, while its lyrics emphasize the introspective and bittersweet tone of the story. The group, which has previously provided songs for productions such as Frieren: Journey's End and Chainsaw Man, has further heightened fans' expectations.
The manga that forms the basis of the series, "Kimi to Supermarket no Sumikko de" (Turkish: Seninle Marketin Arkasında), has been published on Kodansha's Comic DAYS platform since 2020. The story depicts the warm and melancholic relationship that develops between Sasaki, an office worker overwhelmed by a hectic work pace, and a mysterious woman he encounters while smoking behind the supermarket one evening. The manga stands out for its realistic portrayal of loneliness, adult life, and small joys.
This adaptation has become one of the most anticipated productions of the season for both manga readers and romantic-drama fans. Especially the fact that a group with a large fan base like ZUTOMAYO is performing the opening song shows that the anime will attract attention not only in Japan but also internationally. Although streaming platforms have not yet been announced, based on similar past productions, it is expected to be available on global services such as Crunchyroll or Netflix.
In the coming weeks, new character introductions, additional cast, and possibly an ending song announcement may come. The wistful yet hopeful exchange of glances we see at the end of the trailer promises an adaptation that captures the spirit of the series. When the first episode airs on July 9, we will all see how special a moment smoking behind the supermarket can be.
