Sound! Euphonium: Final Movement Film's First Footage Released: A Surprise with Gen Hoshino's "Koi" Song

Kyoto Animation is preparing to captivate fans once again. The studio has shared a special opening scene on YouTube from the first part (Zenpen) of Sound! Euphonium: Final Movement (Gekijō Anime Saishū Gakushō), the film that will serve as the finale for the Sound! Euphonium (Hibike! Euphonium) series. The most notable aspect of the video is the school orchestra performing the song "Koi" by Gen Hoshino, which became a phenomenon in Japan. This energetic start has created a wave of nostalgia and excitement among the series' followers.
This journey, which began in 2015, is based on Ayano Takeda's popular novel series and follows the passion for music of young members of a high school concert band. Brought to life with Kyoto Animation's unique visual quality, the series focused on Kumiko Oumae's final year of high school in its third season, which aired last year. This new film project will bring the "Final Movement" arc, which will crown the series' 10-year adventure, to the big screen in two parts and bring the story to a definitive end.
The film's technical staff features veteran names from the series. Tatsuya Ishihara sits in the chief director's chair, while Taichi Ogawa takes on the role of director. The music is once again composed by Akito Matsuda. The released footage highlights not only the musical quality but also the matured character designs and KyoAni's famous detailed animation style. The choice of the song "Koi" is no coincidence; it serves as a nod to the popular culture of the era in which the series is set and successfully immerses the viewer in the story's atmosphere immediately.
The first installment of the two-part finale series is expected to hit theaters in Japan on April 24, 2026. The second part is planned to meet audiences in the autumn of the same year. Fans, who are impatient to see how Kumiko's search for 'euphoria' will end and the final fate of the Kitauji High School Concert Band in the national competition, have received their first clues about how emotional and magnificent the finale will be with this opening video.
