Studio Khara, the Studio Behind Evangelion, Joins the Baahubali Universe!

Studio Khara, which became a worldwide legend with the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, is stepping into the Baahubali universe, one of India's biggest film franchises. According to the official announcement, the studio will prepare a special sequence for the new animated film titled BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR PART 1. While Akira Honma sits in the director's chair for the Japanese leg of the project, character designs will be handled by Noriko Ito. Additionally, Shin Evangelion director Mahiro Maeda will join the project as a "main creative contributor," bringing a grand vision to the team.
The film is preparing to drag fans of the original series into an unconventional, mystical atmosphere. The story focuses on Amarendra Baahubali's journey after being betrayed and killed. The prince finds himself in an afterlife spanning 14 different planes of existence, where he falls right into the middle of a cosmic war between Devas and Asuras. Directed by Ishan Shukla, known for Star Wars: Visions, this production holds the title of the highest-budget project in the history of Indian animation.
The Baahubali series is known as a massive brand created by director S.S. Rajamouli that launched the "Pan-Indian" film movement in Indian cinema. The live-action films released in 2015 and 2017 broke records by grossing over $350 million worldwide. Studio Khara's involvement in this project is seen as a unique fusion of Japanese anime aesthetics and Indian mythological storytelling. Introduced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, the film is not just a spin-off, but an epic sequel exploring the depths of the universe.
This collaboration is a massive international partnership bringing together talent from India, France, the United Kingdom, and Japan. The Japanese production company SlowCurve is building this cultural bridge by coordinating between the Japanese and international teams. BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR PART 1 is scheduled for release in 2027. Fans are counting the days to watch their beloved characters in this new and magnificent animation format, with original actors like Prabhas and Ramya Krishnan returning to the voice cast.
