A Nostalgic Return from Studio Pierrot: Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly is Now on Tubi!

Studio Pierrot, one of the most established studios in the anime world, has made a magnificent return to the magical girl (mahou shoujo) genre! Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly (Mahou no Shimai LuluttoLilly), which began airing in Japan on April 5, 2026, has now been added to the library of the popular free streaming platform Tubi. The series, which met with viewers as of May 9, 2026, can also be followed via the official YouTube channel of Bandai Namco Filmworks.
This production is not just a new anime, but also a continuation of a legacy. Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly stands out as the sixth installment of the famous "Pierrot Magical Girl" series that began in the 1980s with Magical Angel Creamy Mami. Arriving exactly 28 years after the 1998 production Fancy Lala, this new series combines the classic magical girl atmosphere with modern animation techniques. While the experienced Shintaro Doge sits in the director's chair, the screenplay bears the signature of Yuko Kakihara.
Our story revolves around two sisters who have grown somewhat distant from each other, Fuu and Rui Nonoyama. After encountering a mysterious spaceship one day, the sisters gain the ability to transform into their dream adult selves thanks to magical beings named Uguisu and Azuki. However, this miracle has two strict rules: the powers will only last for one year, and this secret must never be shared with anyone! Unaware of each other's secret identities, Fuu and Rui step into the music world under the names CompatoLilly and MashuLulu, becoming rival idols.
The series also manages to captivate fans with its musical aspect. The anime's energetic opening song "Bubee" is performed by the popular K-pop group ILLIT.
