Tenchi Galaxy: Original Director Hiroshi Negishi Returns, Kickstarter Campaign Launched

Tenchi Galaxy emerges as a spiritual successor to the classic Tenchi Muyo! series. Armiger Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce an anime pilot episode under the leadership of Hiroshi Negishi, the director of Tenchi Universe (1995). The campaign was announced on July 10, 2026, and aims to fund this pilot, which holds the potential to develop into a full new series.
Negishi previously offered an alternative interpretation of the series with Tenchi Universe, which was highly acclaimed by fans. Now, he plans to tell a new story that expands the universe in Tenchi Galaxy with the same team. The project's official statement notes, "This is just a pilot; our goal is to create a full anime series that will bring together both old and new fans." The campaign has set a specific goal to fund visual development, scriptwriting, and basic animation work.
The Tenchi Muyo! franchise has created a vast cultural impact through manga, anime, novels, and games since its first OVA in 1992. Tenchi Universe emerged as a more comedy-focused alternative to the original OVA and gained a large fan base, especially in the West. Negishi's return promises to combine nostalgia with modern storytelling. Furthermore, the fact that Armiger Entertainment is a studio with a history of successful Kickstarter projects gives fans confidence.
The campaign aims to complete the pilot in 2027, depending on progress in the writing phase. The Kickstarter page offers rewards based on donation levels, such as digital copies, concept art, and even participation in script reading events. If Tenchi Galaxy is successful, a new chapter will be added to the series' legacy of over 30 years. Fans have the chance to be a part of this new adventure by supporting the project.
