First Trailer for The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 Arrives: New Character and Switch Game Announced

The wait for fans of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru.) has finally begun to bear fruit. The first official teaser video for the series' highly anticipated second season has been released. Along with this video, the new character named Noches, who will join the story, appeared before viewers for the first time. However, a piece of sad news was also shared alongside the trailer; the release date, previously planned for July 2026, has been postponed to October 2026 due to disruptions in the production process. Despite this delay, the shared visuals and new announcements have managed to keep the excitement fresh among the fanbase.
Adapted from the popular light novel series written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu, the anime made a big breakthrough in 2021 with its first season. This original story, which won the 15th MF Bunko J Newcomer Award, follows the adventures of high school student Kimihiko Kimizuka, who always finds himself in the middle of trouble, and the legendary detective Siesta, whom he met in the sky. The second season renewal was actually granted in July 2022, but the long silence that followed has now given way to concrete details with this new trailer.
One of the most striking details in the new season is the addition of the new character Noches to the voice cast. Interestingly, this character will be voiced by Saki Miyashita, who also voices the series' iconic character Siesta. This has already fueled theories that there might be a mysterious connection between the characters. There are no changes to the technical staff; Manabu Kurihara remains in the director's chair, and the animation is handled by the ENGI studio. The return of names like Deko Akao for the screenplay and Yosuke Ito for character designs guarantees that the visual and narrative language of the first season will be preserved.
In addition to these developments in the anime world, a new Nintendo Switch game developed by Taito has been announced to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the series. Although detailed information about the game's genre and content has not yet been shared, the transformation of the series into a multimedia brand has been welcomed by fans. The Detective Is Already Dead seems poised to be one of the most talked-about productions of 2026 with both its new season and game project. All fans have to do now is count down the days to the big premiere in October.
