The Elusive Samurai fans have exciting news: The main trailer released for the second season of the series also revealed the premiere date. The new season will meet the audience on July 17, 2025. The trailer showcases Tokiyuki's struggle against new enemies and the return of familiar faces.
Adapted from the manga of the same name by Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom), The Elusive Samurai is set in the Kamakura period. The story revolves around young Tokiyuki Hojo, who lost his family at a young age and fights to survive. The first season aired from July to September 2024 and was praised for both its historical atmosphere and action scenes. The series has over 20 tankōbon volumes in total, and the manga is still ongoing.
The first half of the second season is expected to cover the 'Shinano Arc' from the manga. Among the new characters we see in the trailer, the powerful warriors in Ashikaga Takauji's army and Tokiyuki's new allies stand out. CloverWorks is known for its attention to battle choreography and period costumes; the quality from the first season is expected to continue.
The production team announced that season 2 will include more action and strategic battle scenes than the first season. Additionally, in the visuals released so far, Tokiyuki's maturing appearance and new weapons are noticeable. The series will be available on TV Tokyo and other channels in Japan, and internationally through services such as Crunchyroll and Ani-One.
The Elusive Samurai's second season is poised to be one of the most important productions of the summer for historical anime fans. The trailer also shows that the music has been renewed; the compositions are again being prepared by the same team from the first season. Additional promotional materials and details about the voice cast are expected in the coming weeks.
