Two New Voice Actors Join The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne Anime

The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne anime has added two prominent voice actors to its cast ahead of its upcoming broadcast. Among Japan's leading voice actors, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Kirito in Sword Art Online, Muichiro Tokito in Demon Slayer) and Ai Kayano (Kaori Miyazono in Your Lie in April, Shiro in No Game No Life) are the new additions to the series. The anime will begin airing on television channels in Japan on July 6, 2026.
According to the official announcement, Matsuoka will voice Kyle, a scheming and cunning nobleman. Kayano will voice Elise, a mysterious and intelligent advisor who stands by the prince. It is a matter of curiosity how these two characters will shape the story. The previously announced main cast includes Natsuki Hanae as the lead prince and Saori Hayami as the loyal servant.
The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne is adapted from the light novel series of the same name by Takuma Yokota. The series tells a political intrigue and fantasy story of a prince who is perceived by the people as incompetent and indifferent, but who is actually devising complex plans to seize the throne. The original series has been published under Poplar Publishing's bunko label since 2021 and has reached 8 volumes so far. The manga adaptation continues on the Comic Walker platform.
The anime is produced by J.C.Staff (One Punch Man Season 2, Food Wars!, DanMachi). The director is Yoshiaki Kawajiri (NINJA SCROLL, The Animatrix). This signals that the action scenes will be presented with high quality and a dark atmosphere. Fans believe that with the addition of experienced names like Matsuoka and Kayano, the series' voice acting performance will be top-notch.
So why is this important? Names like Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Ai Kayano bring both commercial success and quality performance to an anime. Especially considering Matsuoka's success in portraying cunning characters (e.g., Kirito in Sword Art Online or Ren in The Rising of the Shield Hero), it is not hard to predict that the character Kyle will play a key role in the story. Likewise, the depth Kayano brings to cool and intelligent characters (Shalltear in Overlord, Yayoi in Psycho-Pass) suggests that Elise is a figure full of secrets.
The anime will air every Monday evening from July 6, 2026 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels. It has been reported that international streaming rights have been acquired by Crunchyroll and Netflix. Fans are also expecting details about the opening and ending theme songs along with a new trailer to be released in the coming weeks. The series is widely regarded as one of the most notable political-intellectual productions of the summer season.
