First Trailer Released for THE ONE PIECE Remake: Mayumi Tanaka Returns

The first teaser trailer for THE ONE PIECE, the new anime series adapted from Eiichiro Oda's legendary manga, was unveiled today. The most striking detail in the trailer is that the series' iconic voice actor, Mayumi Tanaka, will once again bring Monkey D. Luffy to life. This decision came as no surprise to long-waiting fans, as Tanaka has been voicing Luffy since 1999 and has become synonymous with the character.
The remake project, developed under WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga), was first announced at Jump Festa in December 2023. The goal is to retell Oda's original story from beginning to end using modern animation techniques. The trailer features brief scenes from the early East Blue chapters and showcases the new animation style. WIT Studio's signature fluid and cinematic shots seem poised to make the One Piece universe even more magnificent.
This remake is planned independently from Toei Animation's ongoing main anime series. In other words, it opens a clean slate for fans who have grown tired of the old episodes or complained about the quality difference. THE ONE PIECE is expected to offer a more faithful adaptation from the manga's beginning – without filler episodes, focusing solely on the story Oda wants to tell. There are rumors that the music used in the trailer was composed by a new composer, but no official announcement has been made yet.
Although no exact release date has been given yet, the arrival of the teaser trailer indicates the production is progressing. It is widely speculated that the project, with Netflix handling global distribution, will likely meet audiences in 2026. WIT Studio previously stated that this series is a love letter to Oda's One Piece and aims to attract a new generation of viewers. More details – such as the voice cast, streaming platform, and exact date – are expected to be shared in the coming months. The trailer has already made a huge splash on social media, as it combines both nostalgia and the excitement of a fresh new take.
