The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 Teaser Released: Returning in 2027

The Rising of the Shield Hero fans have great news! The official teaser for the series has been released, and it has been confirmed that the fifth season will air in 2027. According to Anime News Network, the production team from the fourth season will continue unchanged.
While the teaser visuals show Naofumi Iwatani and his team preparing for new adventures, it is a matter of curiosity where the story will go after the major battles remaining from the fourth season. Takao Abo (first two seasons and fourth season) will again be in the director's chair. The joint production by Studio Kinema Citrus and DR Movie continues.
As a reminder: Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) is based on the light novel series of the same name by Aneko Yusagi. The first season aired in 2019, the second in 2022, and the third in 2023. The fourth season has not yet been released; it was originally expected to air in the second half of 2025, but the studio experienced delays in its schedule.
Now, about the fifth season: The official teaser shows that the series is ready for a long journey. While the light novel series has surpassed 22 volumes, the anime currently covers approximately volumes 15-16. So the studio has plenty of material. Characters introduced in recent seasons, such as the Crimson Sword Hero, may play a more prominent role in the fifth season.
For fans, this announcement is a sign that the series will not be cancelled and will maintain its quality. However, the 2027 date seems a bit far off. The fact that the fourth season hasn't aired yet is also confusing. It is likely that the studio wants to improve the quality by planning the fourth and fifth seasons back-to-back. More details (release dates, new cast members, theme music) are expected in the coming months.
In short, the Shield Hero universe continues to expand. Although we have to be patient until 2027, we hope that this wait will be crowned with a good production.
