The World's Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country's Novice Seeker Anime Begins on July 5!

The broadcast date for the anime The World's Strongest Rearguard - Labyrinth Country's Novice Seeker, one of the beloved examples of the fantasy and isekai genres, has finally been revealed! The production will meet viewers on July 5, 2026, at 22:00 JST on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Sun TV channels in Japan. In addition to this exciting announcement, a new visual from the series has also been presented to fans.
The anime is adapted from the light novel series written by Tōwa and illustrated by Huuka Kazabana. The series first began serialization as a web novel on the online platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in April 2017. Shortly after, it began to be published as a light novel by Fujimi Shobo (under the Kadokawa Books imprint) in November 2017, reaching nine volumes as of September 2025. Additionally, a manga adaptation illustrated by Rikizo also began serialization on Kadokawa's ComicWalker platform in March 2018, and has ten volumes as of January 2026.
The story begins with Arihito Atobe, an overworked salaryman, dying in an unfortunate bus accident. However, this is not his end, but the beginning of his reincarnation into a fantasy world called Labyrinth Country. Starting a new life here as a 'Seeker', Arihito is assigned to a little-known but extremely powerful support class called 'rearguard'. This class has the ability to provide attack, defense, and healing support to his party. Furthermore, his position at the back of the party increases the affection of his female teammates towards him. Arihito, with the freedom of having escaped corporate slavery, is eager to make a fresh start as a new Seeker.
Maho Film is producing the anime, with Yūji Yanase (Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra) directing.
