Three New Actors Join Blue Lock Live-Action Film
The cast of the Blue Lock live-action film continues to grow. According to Anime News Network, popular boy band Fantastics member Yusei Yagi and actors Keisuke Watanabe and Omi Natsuki will appear in the film. It has not yet been announced which characters the actors will portray, but all three names are expected to be among the key figures of the story.
Blue Lock is a soccer manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro, illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, and published by Kodansha in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The series, which began in 2018, tells the story of an extraordinary project launched by coach Jinpachi Ego after Japan's elimination from the World Cup: 300 high school soccer players are locked in the Blue Lock facility and subjected to a ruthless competition until only one person remains. The manga quickly became a worldwide phenomenon and has sold millions of copies.
The anime adaptation of the series was released in 2022 by studio 8Bit and received great acclaim. In 2024, its second season, and the same year, the spin-off film Blue Lock: Episode Nagi were released. Now, fans preparing to step into the series' cinematic universe with the live-action film are even more excited by these new cast announcements. Among the names joining the production, Yusei Yagi is a popular and influential idol continuing his music career under LDH Japan, while Keisuke Watanabe and Omi Natsuki are well-known faces of Japanese television and cinema.
According to information in Anime News Network's August 10 report, these three actors are added to the previously announced main cast. However, the director of the live-action film, the release date, and character details still remain a mystery. In particular, who will portray iconic characters such as the protagonist Yoichi Isagi and his greatest rival Rin Itoshi is among the most anticipated questions for fans.
Blue Lock's fanbase is not limited to Japan; in Turkey as well, the manga and anime adaptation have a large community of readers/viewers.
