Ushiro no Shōmen Kamui-san Anime Arrives in July: Tomokazu Sugita to Star!

We have exciting news for anime fans who enjoy supernatural events, absurd humor, and a bit of mature content! The long-awaited first promotional video for the television anime adaptation of the popular manga series Ushiro no Shōmen Kamui-san (Kamui-san Directly Behind You) has finally been shared. According to the official announcement, the series will meet audiences in July 2026. The biggest surprise is that the charismatic yet bizarre medium Kamui, the series' main character, will be voiced by the legendary Tomokazu Sugita, known for his role in Gintama.
The original manga, written by Eroki and illustrated by Shinko Konoshiro, has been serialized on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app since 2020. The story revolves around Kamui, a talented medium who exorcises spirits using quite "unconventional" and often lewd methods, and his assistant Shizuka Mimitsuka, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts. Shizuka, who will be voiced by Riko Aono, serves as both an assistant and bait to attract ghosts during Kamui's rituals. The cast also includes familiar names such as M.A.O (Oichi), Yuka Aisaka (Kyōko), and Shiori Izawa (Inagawa).
On the animation side, the production is handled by studios Zero-G and ZG-R. Takumi Tsukumo, known for Divergence Eve, sits in the director's chair, while Motofumi Nakajō is in charge of the screenplay adaptation. Another notable detail is that the anime is being produced under WWWave Corporation's Deregula label. This means the series will have both a censored version for television broadcast and a bolder, internet-exclusive "Deregula" version. Character designs are credited to Toshinari Yamashita.
Since its debut, Ushiro no Shōmen Kamui-san has garnered significant attention in Japan, proving its success by ranking 13th in the web category at the 2021 Next Manga Awards. Combining horror elements with a high dose of comedy and ecchi details, the production is poised to be one of the most talked-about works of the summer season, especially when combined with Tomokazu Sugita's unique comedic voice acting style. If you want to be both chilled and burst into laughter, get ready for Kamui's bizarre world in July!
