Live-Action Film Adaptation of Wandance Reveals Lead Actor and Release Date

The highly anticipated live-action film adaptation of Wandance has finally released its first teaser. Along with the trailer, the lead actor and the staff, as well as the film's release date, were announced. &Team member Jo will bring to life the main character from the manga, Kaboku Kotani. The film will hit theaters in Japan on November 27, 2026.
Wandance is a breakdance manga written and illustrated by Coffee, serialized in Monthly Shonen Magazine since 2019. The story follows Kaboku, a shy high school student, as he discovers dance and finds himself in this passionate world. The manga quickly gained a large fanbase for its fluid dance scenes and character development. With 15 volumes published so far, the series has been well-received both in Japan and internationally.
The live-action adaptation is directed by Norihiro Koizumi, with a screenplay written by Yūko Kawabe. Koizumi is known for his successful dramas and dance-themed productions. The cast besides Jo has not been announced yet, but the teaser shows silhouettes of several dancers, indicating that the film places great emphasis on dance choreography.
This adaptation is particularly noteworthy because breakdancing is a rarely covered subject in anime and manga. It is curious how Wandance's energetic and heartfelt story will translate into live-action format. Jo's stage performance background suggests he is the right choice for the lead role. Fans eagerly await new trailers and casting announcements in the coming months. If the film is successful, it could pave the way for more breakdance-themed productions.
