New Original Anime from WIT Studio: LONA Arrives in Spring 2027

WIT Studio has made the official announcement of its long-awaited original anime project, LONA. The anime will be released in spring 2027. The studio simultaneously revealed the project's first trailer, main cast, and technical staff.
LONA will have a completely original story. The trailer shows hints of a young girl's journey in a mysterious world. The director is Shinpei Ezaki, known for Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song. Character designs are handled by Kunihiko Hamada, and music is entrusted to the duo Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto. The voice cast includes Reina Ueda (as the lead Lona) and Yūichi Nakamura.
WIT Studio is a studio that has proven its name in the animation world with blockbuster productions like Attack on Titan (seasons 1-3), Vinland Saga, and Spy x Family (first season). However, in recent years, the studio has also been focusing on original projects. WIT, which has showcased its creative vision with original works such as Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, Great Pretender, and The Deer King, continues this trend with LONA. The high-paced action scenes and emotional depth that have become the studio's signature will also be seen in the new project.
Although 2027 may seem far away, this early announcement shows how much importance WIT Studio places on the project. What's exciting for fans is how ambitious the studio is in creating an original universe. In the coming months, we may see character introductions, new trailers, and possibly a manga or novel adaptation. LONA is a sign that the studio wants to leave its mark on the second half of the 2020s.
WIT, one of the most respected studios in the anime world, coming with a brand new original story, reminds us once again of the industry's need for original content. While eagerly awaiting spring 2027, it's worth staying tuned to see what the studio will offer in this long-term project.
