The Creators of Witch Hat Atelier and The Owl House Meet Over Fantasy

One of the most notable side events of Anime Expo 2026 brought together two fantasy geniuses from two different continents. Kamome Shirahama (Witch Hat Atelier) and Dana Terrace (The Owl House) met at Kodansha House in Los Angeles for a special talk titled 'WITCH X WITCH'. The event was met with intense interest from fans of both the manga and animation worlds.
Throughout the talk, the two creators discussed the common themes, magic systems, and similarities in character design that shape their fantasy worlds. In particular, the striking parallels between the detailed magic illustrations in Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier and the creative magic world-building in Terrace's The Owl House were highlighted. Both artists noted that they were inspired by the works of figures such as Ursula K. Le Guin and Hayao Miyazaki.
Kodansha House is known as a venue that aims to build such cultural bridges. Established in 2025, this space aims to create a dialogue between manga, anime, and Western animation. The meeting of Shirahama and Terrace became one of the most concrete examples of this mission. We should remind you that the Witch Hat Atelier manga has been published since 2016, and The Owl House aired on Disney Channel between 2020 and 2023.
This talk once again demonstrated the universal language of the fantasy genre that transcends borders. It is rumored that Shirahama is working on a new series soon, and Terrace is in talks with studios for a new animation project. Fans are already excitedly discussing the possibility of the two creators coming together on a joint project one day.
