New Key Visuals Released for Witch on the Holy Night Film
ufotable released two new key visuals for Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru) anime film. One of the visuals bears the signature of Hirokazu Koyama, while the other was drawn by the ufotable team. Thus, the cinematic adaptation of Type-Moon's visual novel continues its promotional tour where it left off.
Actually, Witch on the Holy Night is adapted from Type-Moon's visual novel of the same name released for Windows in 2012. The story takes place in the late 1980s and develops when Soujuurou Shizuki, who comes from the countryside, meets two extraordinary women: Aoko Aozaki, who has a magical background, and the solitary mage Alice Kuonji. The resulting events form one of the most elegant and dark stories in the Type-Moon universe.
The project was announced in December 2021 and created excitement as ufotable crossed paths again with Type-Moon, with whom it had worked together for years. The studio had previously gained the trust of fans by doing a strong job in Type-Moon adaptations with the Kara no Kyoukai films and the Fate/stay night series. Therefore, every new visual for Mahoutsukai no Yoru is considered a small clue about the film's production quality.
It is known that the production was released in Japan on January 12, 2024, after a long waiting period. The two new key visuals are also among the promotional materials released during this period of the film. Fans are eagerly wondering how ufotable's signature use of light and color will turn Kinoko Nasu's screenplay into a visual feast.
