Witch on the Holy Night Anime Film Hits Theaters on November 20
One of the most special works in the Type-Moon universe, Witch on the Holy Night (Mahōtsukai no Yoru), is finally preparing to meet anime fans. The anime film, produced by ufotable, has officially announced that it will hit theaters in Japan on November 20, 2026.
The film will be the first large-scale adaptation of the visual novel of the same name, which was released in 2012 and written by Kinoko Nasu, one of the founders of Type-Moon. The original story is set in the late 1980s and follows the encounter between an ordinary teenager, Shizuki Sōjūrō, and two powerful witches—Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji. The series is particularly known among fans of Fate/stay night and The Garden of Sinners for its deep character development and approach to its magic system.
The film's voice cast is quite impressive: Haruka Tomatsu (Prison School, Sword Art Online) plays Aoko Aozaki, Kana Hanazawa (Psycho-Pass, Steins;Gate) plays Alice Kuonji, and Yūsuke Kobayashi (Re:Zero, Vinland Saga) plays Shizuki Sōjūrō. An experienced name from ufotable sits in the director's chair; the animation quality is expected to be on par with Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works and Demon Slayer.
This announcement is great news for fans who have been waiting impatiently since the project was first revealed in 2021. For now, only the Japanese release date for the film has been clarified; no statement has been made yet regarding international screenings or a digital platform launch. However, considering Type-Moon's global fan base, it is highly likely that the film will arrive on platforms like Crunchyroll or Netflix in the near future.
