World Trigger Returns: "Reboot Project" Announced with First Trailer and Cast Details

The wait is over for World Trigger fans! According to the official announcement made on April 26, 2026, Daisuke Ashihara's popular manga series is returning to screens as part of the "Reboot Project." The first teaser trailer released has excited the series' loyal followers, confirming the return of iconic characters such as Yuma Kuga, Osamu Mikumo, and Chika Amatori.
The most notable aspect of the project is that the main team behind the original series has been largely retained. Star names such as Tomoaki Maeno, Yuuki Kaji, Nao Tamura, Yuichi Nakamura, and Nobunaga Shimazaki are reprising their roles in the voice cast. Additionally, the series' original director, head writer, and character designer will also be involved in this new production. This is seen as the greatest guarantee that the project will remain faithful to the spirit of the series.
The World Trigger adventure first began in 2013 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. However, due to serious health issues (cervical spondylosis) experienced by author Daisuke Ashihara, the series moved to the monthly Jump SQ magazine in 2018. The anime adaptation, following its first 73-episode run between 2014 and 2016, received great acclaim with its second and third seasons in 2021 and 2022. Known for its strategic combat mechanics and deep character development, the series has a large fan base due to its structure that sets it apart from its peers.
While it is not yet clear exactly what the "Reboot Project" entails, industry sources suggest it could mean the series is being re-adapted from the very beginning with higher production quality, or that it will continue with a fresh perspective from a critical point in the story. Considering the complexity and action dosage of the recent manga chapters, a World Trigger project equipped with modern animation techniques offers a great opportunity to introduce the series to a new generation of viewers. More details regarding the release date and the scope of the project are expected to be shared in the coming months.
