Big Movements in Anime Games: Zenless Zone Zero is Coming to Steam, Frieren Joins AFK Journey!

The world of anime and gaming is entering an active period with a series of major announcements. HoYoverse’s urban fantasy-themed action RPG Zenless Zone Zero has officially announced that it will be released on the Steam platform, which players have been waiting for a long time. This move will expand the game's current accessibility on PlayStation 5, mobile, and the Epic Games Store, allowing it to reach a much larger audience. The Steam version will have full cross-save support with other platforms.
This exciting development is accompanied by the game's Version 2.8: New: Eridan Sunset update, which will be released on May 6th. This update, which serves as the final chapter of Season 2, will introduce two new S-Rank agents to the game: Promeia, who focuses on the ice element, and Starlight – Billy, an upgraded version of Billy who draws attention with his motorcycle combat style. In addition, a new wind element enemy type and the Vortex mechanic, which increases strategic depth, will be added to the game. HoYoverse also announced that a vinyl set featuring the game's iconic music will be available for pre-order on April 29th.
On the other hand, one of the most popular anime series of recent times, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, is stepping into the world of fantasy RPGs. As part of the collaboration with AFK Journey, Frieren and Himmel will be added to the game as playable characters between May 1st and May 27th. Players who log into the game during the event will have the chance to add this iconic duo to their rosters. The fact that the series, which made a worldwide impact with its anime produced by Studio MADHOUSE, is doing such a crossover before its 3rd season, which will be released in 2027, has created great excitement among fans.
We also have good news for classic JRPG lovers: the cult title Exstetra, which was released for PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS in 2013, will be released on Steam this summer for the first time with English language support in an HD Remaster version. Developed by FuRyu and known for its theme of "saving the world with a kiss," the game features legendary names behind it. While character designs are by Enami Katsumi (Baccano!) and Tony Taka, the main theme music bears the signature of Yoko Shimomura, whom we know from the Kingdom Hearts series. This title, which is being moved to modern PC platforms, offers an unmissable opportunity for both those looking for nostalgia and enthusiasts of the genre.
