Jujutsu Kaisen Becomes Best-Selling Adult Graphic Novel in the US for May

Jujutsu Kaisen has risen to number one on Bookscan's May 2025 Adult Graphic Novel list, which tracks book sales data in the US. According to data reported by Anime News Network, the series alongside 15 other manga titles secured spots on the list released on June 21, 2025.
Other notable series on the Bookscan list include Witch Hat Atelier, Gachiakuta, Kagurabachi, One Piece, Steel Ball Run (part 7 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), The Summer Hikaru Died, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. This achievement once again proves that Jujutsu Kaisen has a massive fanbase not only in Japan but on a global scale.
Written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018 and quickly received full marks from both critics and readers. The anime adaptation released in 2020 exponentially increased the series' popularity. Following the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film released in 2023 and the second season, the series continues to set records in manga sales. The Bookscan list is based on retail sales data from independent bookstores and chain stores in the US; thus, Jujutsu Kaisen's top ranking clearly demonstrates the series' strength in the Western market.
This list also highlights the growth of the manga industry in the US. In 2024, manga sales accounted for a significant portion of the overall comic market, and series like Jujutsu Kaisen are maintaining that momentum. Particularly, the inclusion of newer series like Kagurabachi shows the genre's diversity and increasing reader interest. Jujutsu Kaisen fans are eagerly awaiting the third season expected to air in late 2025; this success seems likely to further amplify the excitement leading up to the series' final chapters.
