Mystery and the Search for Identity: Bun Souya's New Manga "Tsuneta" Released in Two Volumes Simultaneously

Bun Souya, a name known in the manga world for psychological depth and mystery-filled narratives, once again leaves readers with difficult questions to ponder. The author's latest work, Tsuneta, hit shelves in Japan on May 12, 2026, released simultaneously in two parts as the upper and lower volumes. Starting its journey in the Monthly Comic Beam magazine under the KADOKAWA umbrella, this series offers a noir atmosphere that blends memory loss and crime elements.
The story begins with the main character finding herself on a beach with an unexplainable wound on her hand. A cell phone that fell (or was thrown) into the sea, unfamiliar roads, and a mysterious weapon she carries are just the beginning of the impasse the character finds herself in. Learning from the driver's license in her wallet that her name is Tsuneta, our protagonist remembers nothing about who she is, and meets Masui, a sweet-toothed and helpful young man. However, Tsuneta's past holds great importance not only for herself but also for Toba, a middle-aged detective struggling with the ghosts of his past. As Toba tries to unravel the link between his former supervisor's corruption and Tsuneta at a turning point in his career, the story turns into a multi-layered chase.
The series creator Bun Souya had previously proven his mastery of social stigma and individual tragedy with his acclaimed work Boku no Namae wa "Shonen A" (My Name is "Boy A"). In Tsuneta, he similarly combines philosophical questions such as "Who am I?" and "How should we live?" with a gripping detective plot.
