Sakamoto Days Live-Action Movie: New Teaser Featuring Ren Meguro Ramps Up the Action

The action-packed world of Weekly Shonen Jump is counting down the days until it hits the big screen with Sakamoto Days! A new character teaser (PV) focusing on the breathtaking performance of the film's lead, Ren Meguro (Snow Man), has been officially released. In the video, Meguro, who portrays the legendary former assassin Taro Sakamoto, has sparked great excitement among fans with his complex fight choreography and acrobatic scenes.
The original story by Yuto Suzuki follows the world's greatest assassin who, after retiring, gets married, gains weight, and starts running a convenience store. Taro Sakamoto has sworn to "never kill" to protect his peaceful family life, but his old enemies won't leave him alone. The live-action adaptation promises to bring the manga's unique humor and high-tempo martial arts aesthetic directly to the cinema.
The film, which will be released in Japan on April 29, 2026, is directed by master director Yuichi Fukuda, known for his Gintama adaptations. Lead actor Ren Meguro underwent an intense four-hour daily makeup process to portray Sakamoto's overweight form. Speaking about his role, Meguro expressed his admiration for the character, saying, "The contrast in Sakamoto's transformation from a legendary assassin to a kind father is his greatest charm." The film also features talented names such as Fumiya Takahashi (Shin) and Aya Ueto (Aoi).
Taking the Weekly Shonen Jump by storm since 2020, Sakamoto Days has become one of the giants of the modern shonen genre, selling over 15 million copies worldwide. While the series' anime, released on Netflix in 2025, became a global hit, this big-budget film project seems set to push the series' popularity to its peak. Set to be released during Japan's famous "Golden Week" holiday, the production will be one of the most important events of the year for both action and comedy lovers.
