Animated Promotional Video Released for Tsutomu Nihei's Tower Dungeon Manga

An exciting development has occurred for fans of the legendary mangaka Tsutomu Nihei. The artist's latest dark fantasy work, Tower Dungeon, has been featured in a special promotional video (PV) created to celebrate the release of the series' 6th volume in Japan. Released on March 31, 2026, this video not only brings manga panels to life but also allows us to see the world of the series through traditional animation scenes for the first time.
Tower Dungeon follows a dark story that begins when a necromancer kills the king and kidnaps the princess, imprisoning her in the massive Dragon Tower. At the center of the story is Yuva, a young farmer who is forced to join the Royal Guard unit formed to rescue the princess. Entering this deadly tower with nothing but a shield made from a pot lid and a supply bag on his back, Yuva struggles to survive amidst the tower's twisted architecture and grotesque monsters. The massive structures and claustrophobic atmosphere we are accustomed to from Nihei's previous works are blended here with magic and sword themes instead of science fiction.
The production quality of the promotional video is quite remarkable. The visual effects for the video were prepared by the agency maxilla, while the animation scenes were handled by studio keel, an ambitious new studio established in Tokyo in July 2025. The video's staff includes Osamu Mikasa, known for Pluto, as the color key artist, and Kentarō Waki from the Sword Art Online: Alicization series as the composite director. The fact that such a competent team came together for a short promotional video has raised hopes among fans that a full anime adaptation announcement might be coming soon.
Tsutomu Nihei, who began his career with an architectural background and reflected this discipline in the massive megastructures of works like Blame! and Knights of Sidonia, steps into a pure dark fantasy world for the first time with Tower Dungeon. The manga, which began serialization in Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in October 2023, combines Nihei's characteristic art style with a more organic and fantastic aesthetic. The series, whose 6th volume hit shelves on March 9, 2026, continues to attract both long-time Nihei fans and new readers who enjoy Dark Souls-style gloomy dungeon exploration.
