First Episode Images and Character Introductions Released for Hiromu Arakawa's New Anime Daemons of the Shadow Realm

The countdown has accelerated for Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai), the new masterpiece from Hiromu Arakawa, creator of the legendary Fullmetal Alchemist series. Preview stills from the first episode and special visuals for the six main characters have been shared for the anime adaptation, which is set to begin on April 4, 2026. Produced by Studio Bones, the production is preparing to bring Arakawa's unique world to life with modern animation technology.
The story centers on Yuru and his twin sister Asa, who live in a mountain village isolated from the outside world. This universe, built on secrets hidden deep within the village and the control of supernatural beings called 'Tsugai' (Daemons), has become even clearer with the newly released visuals. The shared frames highlight the designs of key characters such as Yuru, Asa, Dera, Hana, Gabu-chan, and Jin. The dynamism in the action scenes, in particular, serves as proof of director Masahiro Ando's (Sword of the Stranger) signature style.
With this work, which she began serializing in Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine in 2021, Hiromu Arakawa is embarking on her greatest fantasy adventure since Fullmetal Alchemist. The series, which has sold over 4 million copies worldwide in manga form, is a candidate to be one of the most ambitious productions of the year when combined with the technical prowess of Studio Bones. The music for the series is entrusted to Kenichiro Suehiro, whom we know from Fire Force and Re:Zero. Additionally, Vaundy will perform the opening theme, and yama will perform the ending theme, further strengthening the series' atmosphere.
This adaptation, which is awaited with great curiosity in the anime world, will be an important destination not only for Arakawa fans but for all viewers looking for high-quality supernatural action and mystery. The series, which will also be broadcast on Crunchyroll, explores the bonds of brotherhood and the challenges brought by fate in a dark fantasy world. The first episode is scheduled to air on April 4 at 23:30 Japan Standard Time. Let's see how far Yuru and Asa's mysterious journey will carry the legacy left by Fullmetal Alchemist.
